Ball Mill End Cover

Ball Mill End Cover

The ball mill head, also known as the ball mill end cover, is a crucial component of the ball mill, situated at both ends of the cylinder. Its primary function is to provide support for the material, the cylinder itself, and the grinding media. CHAENG has extensive experience in producing different types of ball mill heads tailored to meet the specifications provided by customers.

Ball Mill End Cover Introduction

The end cover of a ball mill, also referred to as the mill head, is a critical component located at either end of the ball mill. It supports the rotating cylinder and provides structural integrity to the mill. It also houses components like trunnion bearings, liners, and feed or discharge openings, which are essential for the grinding process.

Components of a Ball Mill End Cover

Trunnion: Cylindrical extension of the end cover that serves as a pivot point for rotation and connects to the bearings.

Liner Mounting Area: Designed to hold liners that protect the end cover from wear and impact.

Feeding or Discharge Port: Openings for material input and output, often integrated into the end cover design.

Reinforcement Ribs: Strengthen the structure to handle heavy loads and resist deformation.

Seal Groove: Provides a seat for seals that prevent leakage of material or lubricant.

Materials Used for End Covers

Cast Steel: Commonly used due to its high strength, durability, and resistance to impact.

Cast Iron: Offers good wear resistance and cost-effectiveness for moderate-duty applications.

Alloy Steel: Combines toughness and wear resistance, ideal for heavy-duty mills.

Ductile Iron: Balances strength and flexibility, reducing the risk of cracking under stress.

Manufacturing Process for End Covers

Casting: Large end covers are manufactured using sand casting or centrifugal casting methods.

Heat Treatment: Enhances mechanical properties like hardness, strength, and resistance to wear.

Machining: Precision machining ensures accurate dimensions and surface finishes.

Inspection: Non-destructive testing (NDT) like ultrasonic or magnetic particle inspection checks for internal and surface defects.

Types of Ball Mill End Covers

Feed End Cover: Located at the material input side of the mill, designed to facilitate uniform feeding.

Discharge End Cover: Positioned at the output side, includes openings for the discharge of ground materials.

Closed-End Cover: Used in applications where one end of the mill remains sealed.

Ball Mill End Cover Application Range

Our productions mainly used in fields of mining, metallurgy, cement, sugar plant, petrochemical industry, construction, and recycling facilities, aggregate.

Which is including non-standard machinery components, custom castings, forged parts, gears, shafts, ball mill spares, rotary kiln etc.

Processing measure

(1) Post-furnace molten steel treatment via argon blowing or R-H vacuum processing.

(2) Utilizing precision molding with special sand, closely monitoring and regulating pouring temperature and casting speed.

(3) Implementing shaft processing with precise assurance of axial alignment and surface roughness.

Test content

(1) Internal control standards for the mechanical properties and chemical composition of casting billets.

(2) Ultrasonic testing following rough machining processes.

(3) Conducting ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection after the finishing process.
